Times of India - Meditation A Way of Life

I have conducted many talks on how meditation helps us in our lives. A lot of research is being done to see how it benefits us physically and mentally. There is no doubt that if we are able to connect to ourselves and dig deeper into ourselves, we will only benefit from it. Meditation is a way by which we can create that connection within us, which can increase our self worth, create more confidence within us and also imbibe happiness that we seek.

I’ve been meditating for many years and I’ve experienced its benefits in all walks of my life. It may sound too good to be true but then it is too good to be true and there is no doubt about it.

Meditation as a term makes people sometimes very uncomfortable as they feel that it’s too difficult to concentrate or to “quiet our mind”; it is only difficult till you don’t try it. And science has also proven that, even if you feel that you’ve not done anything during your meditation or you were not able to “quiet your mind” and it was only wandering, you still have made an impact in your brain and those 10-15 minutes haven’t gone waste.

While meditation is already popular among individuals, corporate are also trying to imbibe a culture of mindfulness and well-being, only to increase more productivity, enhance creativity and reduce the employee’s stress levels. Organizations such as Apple, Google, Yahoo, Nike, Procter & Gamble, HBO etc are a few names that provide their employees with meditation classes, special breaks for meditation, designated spaces for them to do meditation and even hire experts to teach meditation to their teams.

From my experience I say that meditation when done on a regular basis, it becomes a way of life, it can change a person’s life to a great extent; and it can help in training your mind to focus and redirect thoughts.  Some of the benefits that Meditation offers are –

  • Reduces Stress
  • Lengthens Attention Span
  • Improves Sleep
  • Increases the sense of Well-Being
  • Improves inter personal relationships
  • Reduces chronic pain such as Sciatica, Migraine etc
  • Brings inner peace and calmness
  • Makes you more Creative
  • Improves your ability to make decisions
  • Enhances Immunity
  • And many more

Meditation, like any other exercise, is an exercise of our brain which needs to be done regularly to see its benefits. To start with the habit of meditation, you need to do it according to what suits and works best for you. Instead of following what the entire world is doing, find what helps you in meditating!
